Mivida New Cairo

Mivida is a new private development, a large integrated neighbourhood, which is part of New Cairo. This extension of the capital of Egypt has been created as a response to urban growth and the need for improvement of living conditions in the old city. In this new deployment, L35 had the opportunity to develop some of the most significant facilities, such as the shopping centre and the architectural and landscape project for the extensive green zone of the area: the lake. With regards to retail space, the complex is integrated in the environment by means of an emphasis on the human scale, a work of simple layout and fragmented nature that, nevertheless, uses a restrained pallet of materials to accentuate the experience of the visitor. The lake, with its simple lines, its areas of restaurants and club, will constitute another neuralgic social meeting centre for the new neighbourhood. The buildings –in the case of restaurants on a small scale, and somewhat larger with the club– are subordinate to the impact and visual relationship with the environment, a riverbank where great care has been taken with the vegetation to offer cool areas protected from excessive sunshine.
