World Football Summit (WFS), the leading platform for the global football industry, has announced that the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, recently renovated by L35 Architects in collaboration with GMP and Ribas & Ribas, has been awarded its prestigious Best Stadium Award for 2024.
This award recognizes the stadium's innovative features and its ambitious vision of redefining not only the landscape of sports stadiums but also the cultural and economic fabric of Madrid.
The renovated Santiago Bernabéu stands out for its unique innovations, including:
- A state-of-the-art retractable pitch system with an underground greenhouse
- A 360-degree video screen that wraps around the entire interior of the stadium
- An exterior digital skin that transforms the stadium into a dynamic urban landmark
- Advanced sustainability features and energy efficiency systems
Beyond its technological marvels, the Santiago Bernabéu has positioned itself as a cultural and tourist hub in Madrid.
Tristán López-Chicheri, CEO and principal partner at L35 Architects, reflects: “Our main design intent was to align a ‘number one team’ with a ‘number one stadium,’ so that the stadium’s image could easily be identified with Real Madrid and become a symbol, a memorable image. At the same time, such an important building also becomes a symbol of the city.”
