The expansion of Garbera has achieved a fluid and harmonious connection between the existing shopping center and a new mall connected to two interior plazas, to the East and West.
The new Garbera is presented as a modern, innovative, sustainable and very comfortable avant-garde space, which now integrates into the environment in an organic way. The project has been conceived as a bridge to strengthen social ties and promote the integration of the local community.
The organization of the new building is characterized by its simplicity, and offers a pleasant and almost spontaneous route, where the quality and scale of the public spaces are the protagonists. In addition, the project has been particularly sensitive to energy efficiency and the intelligent use of recyclable systems and materials.
The presence of nature is evident in every aspect of the design, from the architecture to the choice of textures and materials that tie in with the cultural and natural environment of the hills surrounding San Sebastian.
With an investment of more than 130 million euros and the creation of more than 500 direct jobs, Carlos Homet, General Manager of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) for Spain, highlighted the culmination of four years of construction work and the beginning of a new era for Garbera. Homet said: "We are opening the doors of a modern and renovated space where people can live and enjoy themselves, but also a much more sustainable and efficient center, and a great generator of employment.”
