The Real Madrid Football Club has given the green light to the remodeling project for the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium which will transform the site into a new architectural icon for the city.

A unique steel enclosure with an 8.000 sqm retractable roof will provide an avant-garde new look for the legendary stadium. In addition to the aesthetic changes, the project focuses on improving fan comfort, easy access for visitors and public safety by incorporating state of art technology. The expansion of the museum, the creation of new leisure areas and galleries, a panoramic tour, and a 360º electronic scoreboard are some of the exciting innovations that form part of the L35–GMP Architekten–Ribas & Ribas Arquitectos Project.

The initiative also foresees improvements in the stadium's urban surroundings with over 25,000 sq m of new public areas along the Paseo de la Castellana and at the Padre Damián intersection, in addition to turning Rafael Salgado Street into a pedestrian-only walkway. Work will begin in 2019 and last for three and a half years.
