This year, L35 Architects has joined forces with the nonprofit organization ASU ONG to support a transformative project in Burundi, aimed at helping the Batwa community—one of the country’s most marginalized and vulnerable groups. The initiative focuses on building homes for families using local materials like adobe, mud, and water, with community work at the heart of the process.
Who is ASU ONG?
ASU ONG is a nonprofit organization dedicated to volunteer work and development projects, particularly in Burundi. Since its founding, it has worked not only to provide aid but also to share the unique beauty of the "heart of Africa" with the world. Its mission is rooted in a deep respect for local communities and their culture, finding beauty in both the extraordinary and the everyday.
Impact of the project
This housing initiative is making a meaningful difference in the lives of the Batwa families. The homes provide safe and dignified living conditions while fostering stronger community ties through a collaborative approach. By involving the families in the construction process, the project inspires a sense of ownership and empowerment that extends well beyond the act of building.
